With the promise of a new year and a fresh start only around the corner, you are no doubt anticipating all that 2020 will bring. At Whispering Smith, we’re already preparing for the arrival of SS20 fashion trends and predicting what will be hitting the shelves in time for spring/summer next year.

Whether you’re planning your styles for the upcoming season or simply just getting an idea of the best looks to invest in, here are some of the big trends to keep an eye out for.

Camo print gets a fresh look

The utility trends of recent seasons is set to stay, with men’s styles still being released with multiple pockets, zips and of course; camo print. Whether it’s padded gilets with a hood and abstract camo print, or a t-shirt with the traditional khaki print, camo print is getting a makeover ahead of 2020.

In menswear particularly, utility and camouflage designs have created a very masculine, rugged style that have remained popular since they first hit the catwalks earlier this year. Perfect for styling with hoodies, jeans or even smart jackets if the event requires it, camo print and the wider utility trend remain incredibly versatile as we head into SS20.

60s-inspired prints

Every spring, floral prints begin to emerge seemingly everywhere you look; across both men and women’s fashion. While this isn’t particularly ground-breaking, it works. This year, the floral trend has been reworked to include 60s and 70s-inspired prints and was seen on the catwalk from big names like Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Fendi.

Think colourful, abstract prints influenced by retro designs. With a nod to bohemian styles and psychedelic patterns, this trend lends itself perfectly to jackets, dresses and co-ords for the ultimate statement style.

Polka dots are here for another season

You have no doubt been selling out of polka dots for months and it would pay off to keep ordering your favourite spotty styles. Polka dots are going nowhere, at least for now, and for good reason. The perfect print for spring dresses and accessories, this classic polka dot design can be reworked and refreshed into different sizes and combinations.

Seen at the likes of Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Lanvin, designers have begun to experiment with clashing different prints for a fresh take on this popular design.

Shackets

If you’ve not heard of a “shacket” before, you will soon understand the appeal. Popular in menswear, and ideal for the upcoming SS20 season, a shacket is the perfect combination of a heavyweight shirt that can also be worn as a lightweight jacket. It is great for layering with, creating many different looks with one simple, smart design. Look for seasonal colours like beige, khaki and tan that can take you through from spring to autumn.

The shacket is a great example of the imagination and creation within menswear, offering a familiar product in a whole new way. It continues to be a sell-out style every time it appears back on the fashion industry’s radar.

Whatever pieces your SS20 collection includes, consider these emerging fabrics, prints and styles as they become more prevalent moving into 2020.

Keep your clothing collection up to date with Whispering Smith.
